The Bible

Missed last week because I had to go visit my dying grandfather, and next week the high school class will be taught by a person we are thinking about hiring as a new youth minister. So I had to cram the last three weeks I had planned in to one. I was going to talk about first why we can trust the Bible and then how to study it. It tried to do all of that in 45 minutes.
These books were sources and recommended for further reading for this class.

This is the second half of the Christian Theism lecture. In this one we talk a lot about Meaning and a little about Destiny.
Christian Theism Part 1

Since Christian Theism turned out to cover a lot of ground, I broke it into two parts. When covering Christian Theism we will deal with four basic questions of life, four aspects of worldview.
- Origin
- Morality
- Meaning
- Destiny
This class covers the first two by talking about the Teleological and Cosmological arguments for a creator God. It then talks about natural law for morality.
Harry Potter invaded my house the day, and more importantly the early morning, before this lesson so I was a little off my game so to speak. Sorry about that. I also am using new recording software and it allows me to pump up some of the questions and comments from the class. The quality of the sound goes way down, but it is authentic.
Relativism

This week we follow on naturalism with relativism. Both are based on an athiestic/naturalistic worldview, and relativism attempts to create a morality from a naturalistic worldview.
Unfortunately the battery in my mic/headset went out near the end of the recording. So I lost the end of the recording and all of the Q&A from Sunday morning. Luckily I recorded my practice session on Saturday and was able to use that recording. There are some differences, but the core material is the same.
Scientific Naturalism

This week we start looking at specific worldviews. The first one is Scientific Naturalism. We give a definition and also discuss the God of the Gaps Argument and the Argument from Unbelief. The passage for the week is Acts 17:16-32, Paul’s discussion with Epicurean and Stoic philosophers in Athens.
I edit these recording minimally. Since one of the class members reads the passage and my microphone doesn’t pick that up, I read the passage and patch it in later. I also remove some of the long pauses during the Q&A.
This week I lost track of time and we went long.
Worldview

Here we talk about worldview and reality. What is a worldview? What is real? What can we know?
Logic

This week’s class was an introduction to logic. It also contains a break down from a logical point of view of Richard Dawkins argument why there is almost certainly no God.
Love God With Your Mind
Posted by admin on June 19th, 2007 filed in PodcastComment now »
Last week’s introductory lesson covered the history of Christian thought and what impact the lack of intellectual development had on Christiandom, especially in America. This week we get personal and talk about the impact an undeveloped mind has on the individual, both Christian and non-Christian.
